For Employers

Post a job or internship

We have a couple different ways for you to promote your job and internship opportunities to our students and alumni at no charge.

The FSPH Career Services Newsletter is a weekly resource for our students. It features curated listings of jobs, internships, volunteer opportunities, and professional development events to support students’ career growth and experiential learning.

To share an opportunity in the newsletter, please email fsphcs@iu.edu with a brief description and a clear call to action (e.g., how students should apply, express interest, or get involved).

Secondly, we invite you to join IU Indianapolis on Handshake, our career services platform, which is now being utilized by all IU campuses.

Handshake makes it even easier to post to all IU campuses. When posting a position, you will now be able to quickly select any IU campus for your positions.

This new approach will continue to be enriched with support from the career services offices on IU’s campuses and schools, and it vastly simplifies employer engagement with IU. Likewise, it will make it much easier for IU Indianapolis students to find positions for which they are qualified.

Create an internship

Starting to think about developing an internship opportunity at your organization? Check out our tips for writing an internship description.

A typical intern job description should mention:

  • Location
  • A brief description of your company
  • Intern duties and responsibilities
  • Requirements and qualifications
  • Benefits of the internship (e.g. compensation, if applicable)
  • Schedule and duration
  • Any additional information about application procedures

Learning objectives: While we all learn on the job, an internship is designed for learning while building a professional network. Rather than only list qualifications, it is strongly recommended to include learning outcomes during the experience.

Schedule: Often internships include a bit more flexibility than traditional jobs. Indicate how much flexibility your experience can offer and if there are dates or times the intern must work. The flexibility can be particularly important to the intern during high volume times at school, such as midterms and finals.

Compensation: We recognize not all organizations are in a place to offer compensation but offering some does help attract more candidates to your opportunity. Internship sites design compensation in many ways. Most often, interns are compensated hourly or by stipend. The stipend option allows for more control of your budget. If you opt for a stipend, we recommend not paying the entire stipend up front. It is ideal to offer it in a few installments throughout the experience.

Requirements and qualifications: We encourage thinking carefully about what you require from an applicant. While a student at the end of their education may seem ideal, there are many highly invested and talented students who may not be as far along in their education but could still provide great service to your organization.

Feel free to get in touch with us at fsphcs@iu.edu if you have any questions about the internship process here at Fairbanks.
