Biography
Amira Samy Daoud holds an MA in Bioethics from New York University (NYU), where they focused on medical/research ethics and health policy, writing their thesis on the right to adequate health care for Sexual and Gender Minority People of Color. They also hold a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a Pre-Health concentration from NYU. Before starting their PhD, Amira was a Senior Research Associate at AcademyHealth supporting several projects, including the VA Office of Academic Affiliations Advanced Fellowship in Health Services Research program and conducting qualitative research on Project DREAM, which focused on advancing racial equity in maternal health. Prior to joining AcademyHealth, Amira was a Research Associate at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, where they served as a key member of the research team that developed the report "Ending Unequal Treatment: Strategies to Achieve Equitable Health Care and Optimal Health for All." Amira’s research interests include the development and evaluation of effective, scalable, and sustainable interventions for the prevention and management of chronic diseases, with the goal of informing policy solutions and implementation that improve the health and well-being of people worldwide. Amira enjoys watching and playing sports, spending time outdoors, cooking and baking, and spending quality time with friends and family.
